Photo Blog

I’ve started a new photo blog at martinandlori.com. Most of the posts on this blog here have been just snapshots with a little bit of text. The new blog makes it easier to post bigger photos and it looks more like a photo gallery. Not sure what will happen to this blog yet. Stay tuned. But in the meantime, check out martinandlori.com.

Christmas

Five things…

Lisa Walker tagged me with the “Five things you don’t know about me” meme. Here are my five:

1) Missed opportunity? - Six years ago I missed the once in a lifetime opportunity for an “anonymous makeover”. I came to Canada without knowing anybody (except for the most wonderful Canadian of all who is now my wife). I could have “re-invented” myself without having to go through any embarrassing explanations, for example why my grey hair is black all of a sudden… I never wanted to dye my hair. But think of all the missed opportunities; the things I could have done…(sigh)

2) Ignorant? - After six years in Canada I still have trouble finding Bob and Doug McKenzie funny. Lori tried. A couple times. Didn’t work. Don’t worry, I know it’s me; you can find the explanation here.

3) Disgrace to my people? - I am German and have lived in Germany for a long time. But I have never ever been to Oktoberfest or worn Lederhosen. I don’t even drive a German car (instead I bought one that supports the Canadian economy).

4) Born to complain? - I have fallen in love with Toronto. But I still don’t understand why most people here seem to think that two and a half subway lines are enough for such a huge city.

5) Isolated? - I don’t think I know any bloggers who haven’t been tagged with this “Five Things” meme yet.

Toronto Skyline

Halloween season is starting

…and what better way to start it with funky black and white pumpkins!

Only a few more days (?)

Bruchhauser Steine

Another photo from my Germany trip. My parents, my brother and I went on a little walk to the Bruchhauser Steine during our family vacation in Willingen. I really enjoyed the excursion to this magical place. According to the foundation that looks after this place, people had settled here around 400 BC and turned the rocks and the surrounding area into a kind of fortress.

Glienicker Bruecke

Sitting at home with a broken leg has increased my capacity for daydreaming. I have fond memories of my visit to the Schlosspark Babelsberg this summer. I took a picture of Glienicke bridge at sunset. Looking at the peaceful scenery it is hard to imagine that this was the famous bridge where the Soviet Union and the United States exchanged spies during the Cold War.

Toronto skyline

Here are two pictures of the Toronto skyline shot with my cell phone camera at Tommy Thompson Park, a great place for short hikes on the weekend. I took them a few days before I broke my leg, so it will probably be a while until I can return for another walk to the lighthouse at the end of the park.
